COMMENDING William Hart upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend William
Hart upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
New York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the
Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, William Hart proudly served his country as a medic in the
United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Schenectady County Community College, William
Hart began his long and distinguished career as a nurse at the Albany
Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, William Hart then served as a nurse for the General
Electric Company in Schenectady, New York, a medical purchasing agent
for Corporate Health Dimensions, and as a Customer Service Supervisor
for Southwest Airlines before officially retiring in 2012; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has been called upon to contribute
his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, William Hart has served as a
volunteer for various veteran service organizations; he is an active
member of AMVETS Post 35, and was a driver for the local chapter of the
Disabled American Veterans; and
WHEREAS, William Hart also raises funds for youth scholarship
programs, helps local aging veterans find services, and introduces
children to the veterans who live in their community; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with veterans, William Hart
established the Clowns on Rounds Program where he visits children as
Snappy the Clown; he finds great joy in bringing a little happiness and
laughter to the patients in the local children's hospital; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Glenn Davis has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Kathy, their two
children, and their four grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which William Hart has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, William Hart, a very active and industrious man, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend William Hart upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William Hart.
