HONORING Robert Briggs upon the occasion of his
designation as Citizen of the Year by the Greater
Afton Area Chamber of Commerce on June 3, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Robert Briggs upon the occasion of his designation as Citizen of the
Year by the Greater Afton Area Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, June 3,
2018, at The Silo Restaurant, Coventry, New York; and

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession or
other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good citizenship;
Robert Briggs is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, Robert Briggs has been a resident of the Afton area since
1961, during which time he and his wife, Anne, raised six children while
maintaining a beautiful farm on Route 41; he spent 24 years as the Town
Supervisor and served one term as Chairman on the County Board of
Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, this extraordinary man served on the Afton
School Board from 1971 to 1985, 10 years of which he served as
President; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Robert Briggs has given tirelessly of his time and energies
volunteering at the Afton Fair, Sertoma, and the Afton Historical
Society; he can also be found at the Afton Museum on most Saturday
mornings; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Robert Briggs has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Robert Briggs, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert Briggs upon the occasion of his designation as Citizen of

the Year by the Greater Afton Area Chamber of Commerce on June 3, 2018;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robert Briggs.
