COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the
Ibero-American Action League on June 9, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Ibero-American Action League to
be celebrated at an event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Riverside
Convention Center in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1968, the Ibero-American Action League is a
dual-language human services agency which focuses on building stronger
families and greater self-sufficiency through hands-on learning and
experience; this vital organization serves individuals and families of
all ethnic backgrounds with the unique ability to target multiple
audiences in both English and Spanish; and
WHEREAS, Ibero-American Action League's programs prepare children
for school, provide academic and social support to high school students,
work with parents to strengthen their family unit, and ensure
individuals with developmental disabilities have a high quality of life;
and
WHEREAS, Ibero-American Action League's Early Childhood Center
offers an award-winning program that serves as a national model; it is
also recognized for promoting and maintaining a strong parent engagement
rate (95 percent) and having the highest attendance rate among children
under five in all of Monroe County; staff works with both children and
parents, and serves approximately 100 children and 95 families; and
WHEREAS, Youth Services' evidence-based programs provide academic,
social, and health support to students in 7th and 8th grades in the
Rochester City School District and the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter
School; these programs aim to increase student attendance, improve
academic performance, and provide the necessary support for growth and
success; and
WHEREAS, Family Services provides seniors, families and parents with
educational programs and workshops which improve their quality of life;
it also offers the only Latino senior center in Monroe County which
serves as a home away from home; through the center, seniors learn how
to remain healthy while maintaining strong community connections; and
WHEREAS, The Developmental Disabilities program's bilingual and
bicultural staff diligently work to ensure individuals have a high
quality of life and their families are provided with the support they
need to do the same; individuals learn necessary life skills so they can
live as independently as possible, when possible; the job training
program takes place at its thrift store, Fashion Works; and
WHEREAS, Ibero-American Action League's Emergency Services Division
offers bilingual case management which focuses on increasing the
stability and quality of life among newly arrived Monroe County
residents; and
WHEREAS, During the past year, 86 college scholarships were rewarded
to high school seniors, 100 job seekers were guided or placed in a
program or job, 106 children were enrolled in the Early Childhood
Center, and 5,000 young people and their families were served by
Ibero-American Action League's Youth Services Division; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Ibero-American Action League is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Ibero-American Action League on
June 9, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Ibero-American Action League.
