CONGRATULATING the Baldwinsville High School Girls
Junior 4 Crew Team upon the occasion of winning
their respective race in the New York State
Scholastic Rowing Championships
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
teamwork and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our community, who by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team upon
the occasion of winning their respective race in the New York State
Scholastic Rowing Championships; and
WHEREAS, On a Junior 4 crew team, every athlete in the boat must be
a junior in high school or younger; and
WHEREAS, On April 22, 2018, the Baldwinsville High School Girls
Junior 4 Crew Team opened up their 2018 season strong, winning their
race at the Ithaca Icebreaker; the Baldwinsville Junior 4 Crew Team
subsequently won their race at the Central New York Championship regatta
on May 6, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team then
advanced to the New York State Scholastic Rowing Association rowing
championships held on May 12-13, 2018, in Saratoga Springs, New York;
the 1500 meter course was located along Fish Creek, which feeds out of
Saratoga Lake; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 12, 2018, the Baldwinsville High School
Girls Junior 4 Crew Team competed in their time trial race and won by 9
seconds, advancing them to the state championship race the following
day; and
WHEREAS, The Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team
began the tough state championship race competing closely with the City
Honors High School team, and was able to take the lead halfway through
the race; in a tight last stretch, the Baldwinsville crew kept
themselves out front and won the State Championships by 1.7 seconds,
crossing the finish line with a net time of 5:45.700; and
WHEREAS, The Baldwinsville High School Girls Crew Team has won
several state championships over the years, last earning a gold medal in
the Junior 4 event in 2014; and
WHEREAS, After winning their race in the state competition, the
Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team advanced to the
Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals Race on the Cooper
River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where they placed fifth; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding athletes of
the Baldwinsville Girls High School Junior 4 Crew Team proved to be a
terrific combination of talent, second to none; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case with the Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4
Crew Team whose members include: Sydney VanAuken as Coxswain, Alena
Criss as Stroke, Erin Mordaunt as 3 seat, Grace Skapura as 2 seat, and
Hannah Norton as Bow; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Baldwinsville High
School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team is due in great part to the efforts of
Head Coach Chris Ludden, Novice Coach Kimberly Holmes, Assistant Coach
Meghan Garvey, and Volunteer Assistants Sara Herman and Alaura Francis,
who are skilled and inspirational mentors, respected for their ability
to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Coaches Chris Ludden, Kimberly Holmes, Meghan Garvey, Sara
Herman and Alaura Francis did a superb job in guiding, molding and
inspiring the members of the Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4
Crew Team toward their goals; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team upon
the occasion of winning their respective race in the New York State
Scholastic Rowing Championships; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned players and coaches of the
Baldwinsville High School Girls Junior 4 Crew Team.
