COMMENDING DaQueen Monroe, President and CEO of
The Autism Project-FLOS, Inc., in conjunction with
Women's History Month, for her unwavering commitment
to special needs children and their families
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within the Empire State who
have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend DaQueen Monroe, President and CEO of The Autism Project-FLOS,
Inc. in conjunction with Women's History Month, for her unwavering
commitment to special needs children and their families; and
WHEREAS, Women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made
invaluable contributions to the growth and strength of New York State in
countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the State of New York officially sets aside time
to recognize the achievements and lives of these exemplary women,
representatives of the wide-ranging and vital roles women have played in
the historic development of this great Empire State and its communities;
and
WHEREAS, A life-time resident of the city of Yonkers, New York,
DaQueen Monroe received her Master of Business Administration degree
from Monroe College; currently, she is working on her master's degree in
disability studies at the City University of New York School of
Professional Studies; and
WHEREAS, After her son, Shaquan, was diagnosed with autism, DaQueen
Monroe realized it was difficult to find an organization in the urban
community that worked with special needs children; her unwavering
dedication to her son gave her the inspiration to start The Autism
Project-FLOS, For the Love of Shaquan; and
WHEREAS, The Autism Project-FLOS was established as an outreach
program to enlighten, help and support parents, caregivers and anyone in
direct contact with anyone on the autism spectrum; it helps autistic
individuals learn life skills through opportunity, training and
education in an affordable and accessible way; and
WHEREAS, In addition, The Autism Project-FLOS supports the family
members of the individual with autism through training, workshops and
community outreach, ensuring the person has opportunities to help
transition into adulthood; and
WHEREAS, With the inception of The Autism Project-FLOS, DaQueen
Monroe strives to help parents not feel isolated and hopeless when their
children are diagnosed; using her own experiences, she hopes to educate
all parents on autism awareness and teach them the best way to work with
an autistic individual; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which DaQueen Monroe has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend DaQueen Monroe, President and CEO of The Autism Project-FLOS,
Inc. in conjunction with Women's History Month, for her unwavering
commitment to special needs children and their families; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to DaQueen Monroe, President and CEO of The Autism
Project-FLOS, Inc.
