CONGRATULATING Alexander Scott Gibson upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished rank of
Eagle Scout, the most prestigious of Scouting
honors, on March 26, 2017
WHEREAS, Alexander Scott Gibson, through his diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank,
Eagle Scout; the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday,
March 26, 2017, at the Watkins Glen Elks Lodge in Watkins Glen, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Alexander S. Gibson, the son of Scott and Lisa Gibson, is a
member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 2674 in Watkins Glen, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious Scouting career, Alexander S.
Gibson has held numerous leadership positions and has served as a role
model for his fellow Scouts; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Watkins Glen High School, Alexander S. Gibson
is an exceptional student, maintaining High Honor Roll status every
period; after high school, he plans on studying engineering in college;
and
WHEREAS, Alexander S. Gibson has served in various capacities in
numerous school organizations including SADD, the National Honor
Society, Student Council, and the Homecoming Float Committee; and
WHEREAS, A young man of many interests and talents, Alexander S.
Gibson plays soccer, basketball and golf and runs on the cross-country
team; he is also a trumpet player in the high school band; and
WHEREAS, Alexander S. Gibson has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades including the Clarkson University High School
Leadership Award, the George Eastman Young Leaders Scholarship Award,
and both the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University
and the Ceramics Association of New York Award for outstanding academics
and citizenship; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of
Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
of the necessary achievements, including completion of a community
service project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed;
and
WHEREAS, For his project, Alexander S. Gibson worked with community
members and village officials to bring recognition to Gifford Park, a
long forgotten landmark in Watkins Glens; he and a group of fellow
Scouts built a bench and erected a sign informing the public of the
wonders of the Park; they also installed a pea stone walkway and planted
flowers to beautify the Park's landscape; and
WHEREAS, Alexander S. Gibson's perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master
difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a
leader, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex
society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Alexander Scott Gibson on achieving the rank of
Eagle Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alexander Scott Gibson.
