COMMENDING Richard and Dorothy Dickman upon the
occasion of their designation as 2017 Inductees into
the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Richard and Dorothy Dickman upon the occasion of their
designation as 2017 Inductees into the Auburn Alumni Hall of
Distinction, to be recognized at an Induction Ceremony on Friday, May
19, 2017, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction was established in
2012, by the Auburn Education Foundation to recognize, honor and
celebrate graduates who have distinguished themselves through
outstanding academic, professional, or civic achievements and to inspire
current students to pursue a path towards personal success; and

WHEREAS, Richard and Dorothy Dickman, Auburn High Class of 1951,
have continually demonstrated tremendous competence, extraordinary
intelligence and diligent leadership in their unwavering service to both
their community and their profession and consequently have been selected
for this most prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, Third generation owners of Dickman Farms, Richard and
Dorothy Dickman are true community leaders; they have been called upon
to contribute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1903, Dickman Farms has operated as an
exclusive supplier and rooting station to the Ball Horticulture Company
since 1997, producing young plants and shipping in excess of 120,000
liner trays throughout North America; and

WHEREAS, Today, Dickman Farms ships more than 10 million plants
annually to growers across the United States, and more than eight
million finished plants are shipped to independent garden centers; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Richard and Dorothy
Dickman, Dickman Farms Garden Center has annually been named one of
Today's Garden Center Top Revolutionary Garden Centers in the nation
since 2008, and offers numerous educational events and workshops
throughout the year to inspire gardening and home beautification; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Richard and Dorothy Dickman have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Richard and Dorothy Dickman
have displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Richard and Dorothy Dickman upon the occasion of their
designation as 2017 Inductees into the Auburn Alumni Hall of
Distinction; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard and Dorothy Dickman.
