COMMENDING Helen Myers for special recognition
after many years of distinguished service to her
community during National Volunteer Week
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism also promotes family and community solidarity;
most importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and
charitable endeavors inspire others to answer the call of volunteerism;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Helen Myers for special recognition after many years of
distinguished service to her community during National Volunteer Week,
to be celebrated at a Brunch held in her honor on Saturday, April 22,
2017, in Canandaigua, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in November of 1927, Helen Myers attended the
Brockport State Normal School; after graduation, she served as a teacher
for many years; and
WHEREAS, Helen Myers has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A truly compassionate and caring woman, Helen Myers has
donated 16,000 hours of her time and energy to numerous local
organizations including the F. F. Thompson Hospital, the Ontario Center
for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, the Canandaigua VA Medical Center,
the Veteran's Administration, and Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State
Historic Park, as well as the Steam Pageant in Canandaigua; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Helen Myers has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Helen Myers for special recognition after many years of
distinguished service to her community during National Volunteer Week;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Helen Myers.
