COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Kentucky
Fried Chicken in Kingston, New York, and paying
special recognition to Darlene Pfeiffer, CEO and
owner, for 45 years of distinguished service
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in
Kingston, New York, and to recognize Darlene Pfeiffer for 45 years of
distinguished service in the community; and
WHEREAS, Darlene Pfeiffer is the Chief Executive Officer and owner
of two franchises with KFC in Kingston and Poughkeepsie, New York; an
outstanding business woman, both locally and nationally, she is an
active leader in the civic affairs of her community; and
WHEREAS, As the first woman to serve as President of the Association
of Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchises (AKFCF), Darlene Pfeiffer
represented one of the most influential groups of restaurateurs in the
United States; during her two terms, she fought to protect franchise
contracts efforts by Pepsico when they bought KFC and sought to
eliminate territorial protection; and
WHEREAS, In addition to holding the position of President of the
AKFCF, Darlene Pfeiffer is a 10-year member and three-year President of
the KFC National Advertising Council, has served on the KFC Advisory
Council for four years, is a Board Member of the Kentucky Fried Chicken
Purchasing Co-op, and is a founder of a magazine for KFC Franchises; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Darlene Pfeiffer has held the
position of President of Kingston Kiwanis, Chair of the KFC Dare
Program, President of the Kingston YMCA Board of Directors, and a member
of the Board of Directors for the Benedictine Hospital Health
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Darlene Pfeiffer has made substantial
contributions to the education of the young people in her community; in
2005, she established the Kentucky Fried Chicken Scholarship with the
Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc., which she supports through
personal contributions; five scholarships are awarded annually to SUNY
Ulster students who are interested in a business, nursing or other
health-related fields, and who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit;
and
WHEREAS, Darlene Pfeiffer also helped to establish the national
Colonel's Scholars Program, which awards 50 scholarships annually to
qualified high school seniors to be used toward four years of tuition at
a state sponsored school; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, the Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial
Interdisciplinary Studies opened at Ulster County Community College to
encourage and help others to create and maintain successful businesses,
and through her example, to motivate others in pursuit of their goals;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
businesses and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Kentucky Fried Chicken in
Kingston, New York, and to pay special recognition to Darlene Pfeiffer
for 45 years of distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Darlene Pfeiffer, and Kentucky Fried Chicken of Kingston,
New York.
