CONGRATULATING student-athlete Danielle Patterson
upon the occasion of her selection as a 2017
McDonald's All-American Girls' Basketball Player and
winning both the 2017 New York State Player of the
Year Award and the co-Miss New York Basketball Title
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate student-athlete Danielle Patterson upon the occasion of her
selection as a 2017 McDonald's All-American Girls' Basketball Player and
winning both the 2017 New York City Player of the Year Award and the
co-Miss New York Basketball Award; and
WHEREAS, Danielle Patterson, a senior at The Mary Louis Academy, was
chosen to play in the 16th Annual McDonald's All-American Girls' Game,
on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois;
this prestigious honor was given to only 24 girls in the United States;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Danielle Patterson started
her basketball career at the young age of five; her father, while
walking her to and from school, during which time she would dribble a
basketball, peaking her interest in the sport; and
WHEREAS, This committed athlete's journey began as a Catholic Youth
Organization player for St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park, New York;
she went on to play her first two years of high school basketball at
Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, in Crown Heights, New York,
before transferring to The Mary Louis Academy for her junior year; and
WHEREAS, The first Mary Louis senior to ever reach the distinction
of being named to the McDonald's All-American Team, Danielle Patterson
averaged a double-double this season, with 24 points and 15 rebounds per
game while also adding four assists per game as a forward for the
school; and
WHEREAS, With her family supporting her throughout her entire
basketball career, Danielle Patterson has achieved numerous awards and
accolades including: No. 10 player in the Class of 2017 by espnW
HoopGurlz, New York State Player of the Year by News 12 Varsity, co-Miss
New York Basketball and recipient of the Dream Award; in addition, she
will be playing in the Jordan Brand Classic game on April 14, 2017, at
the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talents displayed by this talented competitor
is due in great part to the efforts of Coach JoAnn Arbitello-Pinnock and
Athletic Director Joseph Lewinger, respected for their ability to
develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Danielle Patterson will be headed to the
University of Notre Dame of South Bend, Indiana, where she will continue
her athletic career as a member of a Division I college hoops program; a
dedicated scholar, she plans to major in sports management with the
intention of becoming a coach; and
WHEREAS, Danielle Patterson's exemplary performance is reflective of
her dedication, determination and personal commitment; as the only
person from New York on the McDonald's roster, she represented her
family, her community, her school, and her State with distinction as an
athlete as well as a woman of dignity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Danielle Patterson upon the occasion of her
selection as a 2017 McDonald's All-American Girls' Basketball Player and
winning both the 2017 New York State Player of the Year Award and the
co-Miss New York Basketball Title; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Danielle Patterson, Coach JoAnn Arbitello-Pinnock and
Athletic Director Joseph Lewinger.
