HONORING Carl Griffith upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Citizen of the
Years Award by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce on
June 2, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and individuals whose purposeful endeavors, as
involved members of the community, enhance the quality of life therein;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Carl Griffith upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2017 Citizen of the Years Award by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce
on Friday, June 2, 2017, at the Sidney Elks Club in Sidney, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Village of Walton, New York, Carl
Griffith moved to Sidney in 1973 to practice law with Paul Eaton;
together, they formed the law firm, Eaton and Griffith; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of University of Rochester and University of
Buffalo Law School, Carl Griffith represented the Sidney School District
for approximately 20 years; he has also worked with the Village of
Sidney Industrial Development Agency and served as a law guardian in
Delaware County Family Court; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Carl Griffith is a member and
former president of the Delaware County Bar Association and a member of
the New York State Bar Association; additionally, he is a past president
and member of the Sidney Rotary Club and former trustee and secretary of
The Hospital; he was also a former director of the Greater Sidney
Development Corporation and the Sidney Community Foundation; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Ann, their son,
Dan, and daughter, Alison, who have all shown him love and support and
rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Carl Griffith upon the occasion of his designation by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its 2017 Citizen of the Years
Award on June 2, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carl Griffith.
