COMMENDING Master Sergeant Larry Macner upon the
occasion of being named the 2017 Veteran of the Year
by the Fulton Veterans Council
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Master
Sergeant Larry Macner upon the occasion of being named the 2017 Veteran
of the Year by the Fulton Veterans Council; and
WHEREAS, The esteemed Veteran of the Year Award recognizes
individuals who have served honorably in the military, and who have
contributed to the betterment of their community after being discharged;
and
WHEREAS, Born in January of 1954, in Utica, New York, Lawrence
Macner proudly served his country with honor and distinction as a member
of the United States Air Force; his career includes six years of active
duty, beginning in 1973, and 22 years with the New York Air National
Guard; and
WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Larry Macner spent his illustrious military
career as a Jet Engine Technician and as a Quality Assurance Technician;
in this capacity he performed jet engine maintenance on both fixed and
rotary wing aircraft; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the New York Air National Guard,
Master Sergeant Larry Macner was deployed to several bases around the
world including: Volk Field, Wisconsin; Patrick Air Force Base, Florida;
Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; Cold Lake Air Base, Alberta Province,
Canada; Gander Field, Newfoundland; Lechfeld Air Base, Germany; Incirlik
Air Force Base, Turkey; and Al Kharj/Prince Sultan Royal Saudi Air Base,
Saudi Arabia; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his valiant military service, Master
Sergeant Larry Macner earned the Meritorious Service Medal, 2
Commendation Medals, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, and many others for a total of 17 Federal Service
Ribbons; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military career in 2008, Master
Sergeant Lawrence Macner began his service as the 6th Ward Common
Councilor for the City of Fulton, the esteemed position he has held
since January of 2012; and
WHEREAS, In May of 2016, Master Sergeant Lawrence Macner was
inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Master Sergeant Lawrence Macner has demonstrated his love for his
country and merits forevermore, the highest respect of his State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Master Sergeant Larry Macner upon the occasion of being named
the 2017 Veteran of the Year by the Fulton Veterans Council; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Master Sergeant Lawrence Macner.
