Assembly Resolution No. 538

COMMENDING John A. Karpinski, Esq. upon the
occasion of his retirement as a member of the Cayuga
Community College Board of Trustees, and his
designation as a Trustee Emeritus after 30 years of
dedicated service on behalf of higher education
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend John A. Karpinski, Esq. upon the occasion of his retirement as a
member of the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees, and his
designation as a Trustee Emeritus after 30 years of dedicated service on
behalf of higher education; and
WHEREAS, John A. Karpinski earned his bachelor's degree from the
College of the Holy Cross in 1965; he furthered his education by
obtaining his Juris Doctor from Boston University in 1968; he is a
member of both the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar
Association; and
WHEREAS, After college, John A. Karpinski served as a VISTA
volunteer in Detroit, Michigan, and held the position of counsel to New
York State Assemblyman L. S. Riford, Jr.; in 1970, he and his father and
brother-in-law founded KS&T Karpinski, Stapleton & Tehan, P.C.; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of private practice, John A.
Karpinski specialized in elder law, estate planning and administration,
real estate, and small business counseling; he has been actively
involved in several law-related organizations including the Midstate
Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors, the Owasco Abstract
Corporation Board of Directors, the OnBancorp Cayuga Region Advisory
Board, and the Cayuga County Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as an attorney, John A. Karpinski
was appointed to the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees by the
Cayuga County Legislature in 1986, 1994, 2003, and 2012; on June 30,
2016, he officially resigned from this title; recently, he was named a
Trustee Emeritus; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, John A. Karpinski held numerous
leadership positions including Secretary from 1987-1989, and Vice Chair
from 1989-1991; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the Board, John A. Karpinski chaired
numerous committees including the Personnel Committee from 1989-1991,
the Planning Committee from 2000-2002, and the Buildings and Ground
Committee from 2011-2013; he also served as the Vice Chair of the
Buildings and Grounds Committee from 2009-2011; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, from 1995-1996, John A. Karpinski was a
participant of the Presidential Search Committee; and
WHEREAS, John A. Karpinski was the recipient of the 1996
Distinguished Service Award by the Association of Boards of Trustees of
SUNY Community Colleges, now known as the New York Community College
Trustees (NYCCT); and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as Trustee, John A. Karpinski was a
vital member of the Chamber of Commerce of Auburn and Cayuga County and
the Cayuga County Environmental Council; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Nancy, and their
four children, Elizabeth, Amy, Peter and Sarah, all of whom have shown
him love and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, As a vital member of the Cayuga Community College Board of
Trustees, John A. Karpinksi has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at the
College for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the
entire community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John A. Karpinski, Esq. upon the occasion of his retirement as a
member of the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees, and his
designation as a Trustee Emeritus after 30 years of dedicated service on
behalf of higher education; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John A. Karpinski, Esq.
