MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
November 15, 2017, as Education Support
Professionals Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official days that highlight the professionals who use their skills and
compassion to educate our children; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 15, 2017, as Education
Support Professionals Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with
the observance of National Education Support Professionals Day; and

WHEREAS, The National Education Association represents three million
Education Support Professionals, all of whom are critical members of the
education workforce whose wealth of knowledge, experience and passion
help ensure student success from pre-school through college; and

WHEREAS, National Education Support Professionals Day began in 1987
and recognizes the contributions that Education Support Professionals
make to public education; at this time it is vital to strengthen support
and show respect for Education Support Professionals, who are equal and
essential partners in public education; and

WHEREAS, Education Support Professionals are a diverse and
wide-ranging group of professionals; including instructional assistants,
food service workers, custodians, technology specialists all of whom
provide invaluable services to create safe and encouraging spaces for
students to learn and grow; and

WHEREAS, These individuals care for our children every day and are
often the first people students encounter outside of their own homes;
these professionals keep school buildings clean and safe, provide
students with healthy meals, and safely drive them home to their
families; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that Education
Support Professionals should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 15, 2017, as
Education Support Professionals Day in the State of New York; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
