HONORING Officer Ryan VanAmburgh upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Life Saving
Award by the Town of Bethlehem

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Officer Ryan
VanAmburgh upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Life
Saving Award by the Town of Bethlehem, celebrated at a Ceremony on
Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Town of Bethlehem Court, in Delmar, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Town of Bethlehem honored police department members for
outstanding service in recognition of Police Week in conjunction with
National Police Week; Officer Ryan VanAmburgh was awarded for actions
which resulted in the saving of a life; and

WHEREAS, The Life Saving Award is bestowed upon an individual for an
act performed in the line of duty, without regard for his own safety to
ensure the lives of citizens were safe; and

WHEREAS, On Wednesday, June 22, 2016, off-duty Officer Ryan
VanAmburgh was traveling on the highway in the City of Albany; after
noticing a vehicle on the side of the road with a passerby conducting
CPR, he stopped to assist; he immediately began performing lifesaving
measures until the arrival of State Police and Albany Fire Department
Paramedics; and

WHEREAS, Due to the swift actions of Officer Ryan VanAmburgh and the
others, the woman was released from the hospital within one week and has
made a full recovery; if not for his willingness and desire to help
others, the outcome would have been very different; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Officer Ryan VanAmburgh upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Life Saving Award by the Town of Bethlehem; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Officer Ryan VanAmburgh.
