HONORING Wendy Wirth upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Wendy Wirth
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the
Egg, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Oceanside, New York, Wendy Wirth earned her
associate's degree in biology from Nassau Community College; in 1975,
Wendy and her husband, Bob, settled in Tyrone, New York; after their
daughters were born, the family moved to Burdett, New York; and

WHEREAS, For 30 years, Wendy Wirth was employed at Cornell
University in Ithaca, New York; for 19 years, she served as a laboratory
technician before transitioning to the role of both administrative
assistant and undergraduate program assistant for the Plant Sciences
Program, the position from which she officially retired from; and

WHEREAS, In her much deserved retirement, Wendy Wirth works at Wirth
Management, a housing business she and her husband own and operate; she
has also donated countless hours toward the betterment of her community;
and

WHEREAS, Wendy Wirth has mentored young children and teenage girls
through Girl Scouts of America, and has served as a court appointed
special advocate; she provides classes on health and wellness to the
community, and raises awareness of hunger prevention through several
food distribution programs including the Retired Senior and Volunteer
Program, the Schuyler County Office for Aging, the Reynoldsville Food

Pantry, the Schuyler County Summer Food Program, and the Schuyler County
Hunger Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Most recently, Wendy Wirth has been serving as a bus buddy
for the Schuyler County Transit Link Line; in this capacity, she has
been teaching older adults and others how to effortlessly use the bus
system; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable woman also takes care of her elderly
parents and aunt, allowing them to live at their home; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Wendy Wirth has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Bob, their two
children, and four grandchildren, all of whom have shown her love and
support and rejoice in her many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Wendy Wirth has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, Wendy Wirth, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Wendy Wirth upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Wendy Wirth.
