RECOGNIZING Saturday, July 22, 2017, as National
Day of the Cowboy in New York State

WHEREAS, In the course of American history, the patriotism of the
citizens of this great country has become embodied in revered symbols of
loyalty, strength and determination; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
Saturday, July 22, 2017, as National Day of the Cowboy in New York
State; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated by the Painted Pony
Rodeo at their 5th Annual Ranches, Rodeos & Wranglers Weekend on July
21-22, 2017, in Lake Luzerne, New York; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, American Cowboy magazine launched the National Day
of the American Cowboy campaign as a way to acknowledge and preserve the
heritage, history and culture of America's Cowboys and Cowgirls; and

WHEREAS, Pioneering men and women, recognized as "Cowboys," helped
establish the American West; the Cowboy embodies honesty, integrity,
courage, compassion, respect, a strong work ethic, and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, The Cowboy archetype transcends ethnicity, gender, and
geographic boundaries; they are excellent stewards of this country's
soil and its creatures, and live off the land to protect and enhance the
environment; and

WHEREAS, Cowboy traditions have been a part of American culture for
generations; they continue to be an important part of the economy
through the work of countless ranchers in all 50 of the United States
who contribute to the economic well-being of nearly every county in the
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Cowboys are central figures in literature, film, and music
and occupy a central place in the public imagination; and

WHEREAS, True American icons, the ongoing contributions made by
Cowboys and Cowgirls to their communities should be recognized and
encouraged by all citizens of this great Empire State and the Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Saturday, July 22, 2017, as National Day of the Cowboy in New
York State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Painted Pony Rodeo.
