CONGRATULATING the Christian Brothers Academy Boys
Varsity Lacrosse Team upon the occasion of capturing
the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class D Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride to their
school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Christian Brothers Academy Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team upon the occasion
of capturing the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class D Championship; they defeated
Westlake High School by a final score of 12-5, at St. John Fisher
College on June 10, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The CBA Brothers used their instant offense and strong
defense to lead the New York State Class D Championship game from start
to finish; in all, the Brothers outscored its four state playoff
opponents by a combined 68-20 margin; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Class D championship win was the CBA
Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team's first-ever state title, and the team closed
out its impressive season with an overall record of 18-5 and finished
first in the final state rankings for boys lacrosse; and
WHEREAS, The talent displayed by the CBA Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team
is due in great part to the efforts of Head Coach Ric Beardsley,
Assistant Coaches Mike Holdridge, Shaun Kazimer, and Ryan Demorest, and
Athletic Director Buddy Wleklinski; and
WHEREAS, The players of the CBA Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team who are
being commended for their outstanding achievements are: Matt Vavonese,
Pat O'Brien, Alex Calkins, Michael Catalano, Lynch Raby, Matt Ludington,
Ben McCreary, Augustus Bonacci, Jace Whelan, Lewes Kunda, Tommie Caputo,
ZJ Shahin, Dan Polhemus, Mike Adornato, Peyton Bowler, Matt Buck, Gabe
Vinal, Zachary Eber, Preston Taylor, Joey Matheson, Ian Henderson, Mike
Matheson, Gregory Wells, Sam Lubinga, Eli Weiss, Joey Akl, Francis
Cannizzo, Sam Bonacci, Colin Kelly, CJ Carbone, Wyatt Auyer, Malcolm
Jackson, Doug DeMarche, Ryan MacKenzie and Will Fallon; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, these outstanding players of
the CBA Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team proved to be an unbeatable
combination of talents, reflecting favorably on their school and the
entire community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Christian Brothers Academy Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team
upon the occasion of capturing the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class D Championship;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the CBA Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team; Head
Coach, Ric Beardsley; Assistant Coaches, Mike Holdridge, Shaun Kazimer,
and Ryan Demorest; and Athletic Director, Buddy Wleklinski.
