MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
October 8-14, 2017, as Crime Stoppers Week in the
State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to individuals and organizations that devote their time and energies to
safeguarding the lives of citizens of the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished organizations which devote their energies and
purpose in service to the community, helping to protect members of the
community and maintain public order; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim to October 8-14, 2017,
as Crime Stoppers Week in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organizations led by
volunteer citizens working to fight crime and keep criminals off the
streets; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1983, Crime Stoppers began as a
public/private partnership between the New York City Police Department
and the New York City Police Foundation; and
WHEREAS, An invaluable crime fighting tool since its inception, this
esteemed public safety program offers cash rewards for information
leading to the arrest and indictment of violent felons; and
WHEREAS, New York State Crime Stoppers strive to make their
neighborhoods a safer place to live by working together with the
community, police, media, and businesses to achieve reductions in crime;
and
WHEREAS, A valuable resource for local, state, and federal law
enforcement agencies, Crime Stoppers has resolved numerous criminal
cases while ensuring confidential sources remain anonymous; and
WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers has helped solve more than 5,300 violent
crimes including over 1,400 murders and attempted murders; and
WHEREAS, The quality of life in New York State is largely reflective
of the commitment and dedication demonstrated by members of
organizations which serve to protect, preserve and maintain public
order; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its many years of service, Crime Stoppers has
helped the police perform their job more effectively, while working to
reduce crime and enhancing the quality of life in its members
communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim October 8-14, 2017, as
Crime Stoppers Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor, State of New
York.
