COMMENDING Gerald A. Esposito upon the occasion of
celebrating his 40th Anniversary as District Manager
with Community Board No. 1 in Brooklyn, New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Gerald A. Esposito upon the occasion of celebrating his 40th
Anniversary as District Manager with Community Board No. 1 in Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Gerald A. Esposito, Brooklyn Community Board No. 1's
District Manager, is a life-long resident of the Greenpoint-Williamsburg
community whose family has roots in the neighborhood spanning nearly a
century; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 7, 1954, Gerald A. Esposito attended Public
School 132 and Junior High School 126, where he achieved outstanding
grades which allowed him early entrance into the prestigious Brooklyn
Technical High School; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Gerald A. Esposito earned his Associate
of Arts degree from LaGuardia Community College; he furthered his
education by obtaining a Bachelors of Science in Honors Degree from the
C.U.N.Y. Graduate Center, and a master's degree in Public
Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice; he also
graduated from the City's Executive Training Program Top Forty Program;
and
WHEREAS, Gerald A. Esposito began his long and distinguished career
working with various non-profit organizations and local government; and
WHEREAS, Gerald A. Esposito has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A compassionate man, Gerald A. Esposito enjoyed helping
others through Boy Scouts of America, VISTA, and the Peace Corps; and
WHEREAS, For over four decades, Gerald A. Esposito has contributed
his skills and labor towards the improvement of the
Greenpoint-Williamsburg community; from his early years with VISTA and
the Peace Corps at the Department of Consumer Affairs, he fought to
protect the rights of the public by battling consumer fraud, to his work
with technical planning and program coordinating at St. Nicholas
Neighborhood Preservation and Housing Rehabilitation Corporation where
he continued to be an advocate for people on their rights in housing and
legal matters; and
WHEREAS, In 1977, Community Board No. 1 hired Gerald A. Esposito as
its District Manager; at that time he was the "youngest district manager
in the City of New York"; he is truly the local boy who has made good by
never leaving his community behind; and
WHEREAS, For 40 years, Gerald A. Esposito has been instrumental in
guiding the Community Board No. 1 through a myriad of complex issues and
resolved many problems with service delivery, budget and planning,
building partnerships and problem resolution; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community, Gerald A. Esposito has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades from community groups, organizations and elected
officials; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his outstanding work with Community Board
No. 1, Gerald A. Esposito is a member of various fraternal organizations
and alumni associations; he has continued in his father's footsteps by
becoming Scout Master of Troop 604, and was appointed Chairman of the
Boy Scouts of America Lenape Bay District; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Gerald A. Esposito serves as President of the
Seneca Club, an over 100-year-old organization located in the
neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Gerald A. Esposito has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gerald A. Esposito upon the occasion of celebrating his 40th
Anniversary as District Manager with Community Board No. 1 in Brooklyn,
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to District Manager Gerald A. Esposito.
