Assembly Resolution No. 698

CONGRATULATING the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team
upon the occasion of winning the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class
AA Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through rigorous training, mental and physical discipline,
and a dedicated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought great pride to their
school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
hereby recognize and congratulate the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team
upon the occasion of winning the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class AA Championship;
and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team from Liverpool High
School, known as the Liverpool Warriors, defeated Massapequa High School
by a final score of 4-1 on June 10, 2017, at NYSEG Stadium in
Binghamton, to win the New York State Class AA Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Warriors started off the championship game
strong with their offense applying constant pressure on Massapequa,
scoring single runs in the first three innings; and
WHEREAS, The Liverpool Warriors secured their lead, scoring their
final run in the top of the fifth inning; and
WHEREAS, The NYSPHSAA Class AA Championship was the Liverpool
Varsity Baseball Team's first-ever state title in program history, and
the team closed out the 2017 season with an impressive overall record of
23-3; and
WHEREAS, No team can succeed without talent throughout its entire
roster, as is the case for the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team whose
players include: Nick Antonello, Peter Belgrader, Thomas Bianchi, Jordan
Brown, Joel Ciccarelli, Jeff Destefano, Jake Evans, Brandon Exner, Jonah
Harder, Andre Leatherwood, Devan Mederios, Gerard Mouton, Zach Pieklik,
Matt Rioux, Nikolas Saunders, Zach Scannell, Zach Scharett, Jacob Sisto,
Ryan Syrko, Owen Valentine, and Joe Zywicki; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent, and drive to win, displayed by the
Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team is due in great part due to the efforts
of Head Coach Fred Terzini; Assistant Coaches C.J. Vivacqua, Matt Dolph,
and Dan LaDuke; Athletic Director Ari Liberman; and Athletic Trainer
Meghan Churpa; these skilled coaches and mentors are well-respected
leaders for their ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding players of
the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team proved to be an unbeatable
combination of talent, skill, and dedication during the entire season;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2017 NYSPHSAA Class AA Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Liverpool Varsity Baseball Team, Head
Coach Fred Terzini, Assistant Coaches C.J. Vivacqua, Matt Dolph, and Dan
LaDuke, Athletic Director Ari Liberman, and Athletic Trainer Meghan
Churpa.
