HONORING Sergeant Tim Morris upon the occasion of
his retirement after 42 years of distinguished
service to Suffolk County

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sergeant Tim
Morris upon the occasion of his retirement after 42 years of
distinguished service to Suffolk County on January 3, 2017; and

WHEREAS, For the past 42 years, Sergeant Tim Morris rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to Suffolk County, first as
a member of the Sheriff's Department, and then the Police Department;
and

WHEREAS, Tim Morris, the son of Virginia and Timothy Morris, grew up
in Babylon, New York, where he attended St. Joseph's School, and
graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, New York;
and

WHEREAS, After high school, Tim Morris attended Villanova
University, Villanova, Pennsylvania, the State University of New York at
Farmingdale and St. Joseph's College in New York; he earned his
Associate Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and his Bachelor of
Arts degree in Human Relations; and

WHEREAS, In 1975, Tim Morris began his illustrious career with the
Suffolk County Sheriff's Department; in that same year, Tim and his
wife, Anne, serving as house parents, opened the second group home in
Suffolk County for Developmentally Disabled Adults for the Suffolk
County AHRC; and

WHEREAS, Five years later, Tim Morris joined the Suffolk County
Police Department and was assigned to the First Precinct in Babylon, New
York; in 1988, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was
transferred to the Third Precinct in Bay Shore, New York; and

WHEREAS, An active participant in both union and fraternal
organizations, Sergeant Tim Morris held the positions of Secretary and
then 1st Vice President of the Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff's
Benevolent Association; in addition, he has served as a delegate to the
Suffolk County Police Conference for the Suffolk County Deputy
Sheriff's, the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association and the
Suffolk County Superior Officers Association; and


WHEREAS, Devoted to his Irish heritage, Sergeant Tim Morris has held
numerous leadership positions in the Suffolk County Police Officers
Emerald Society including Financial Secretary, Treasurer, President,
Chairman of the Board of Directors, and currently, a member of the Board
of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession and the community in which he
lives, Sergeant Tim Morris is an active participant in the International
Police Association, SCPD Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, AOH
Division 7, and the parish of St. Lawrence the Martyr in Sayville; he
also served as President of the St. Lawrence PTA and was a member of
Peace Regional School Board; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1992, Sergeant Tim Morris joined the Board of
Directors of the Suffolk County Police Superior Officers Association
(SOA), which represents approximately 500 active members of the Suffolk
County Police Department from the rank of Sergeant up to the rank of
Chief; this remarkable man has also held the positions of 3rd Precinct
Trustee, Secretary, Chairman of the Board, and 2nd Vice President, as
well as 1st Vice President; and

WHEREAS, In September of 2011, Sergeant Tim Morris assumed the
position of President of the Suffolk County Police SOA upon the
retirement of President Gerald Gilmore; he was then elected to the
position of President in June of 2012; as an active member, he has
served on most committees of the SOA including Negotiations and Labor,
and has represented members before Internal Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Tim Morris also served as a member of the
Legislative Committee of the New York State Association of PBAs and
currently, holds the position of Secretary; in addition he has served as
Administrator of the Suffolk SOA Benefit Fund which provides Dental,
Optical and other benefits to over 1,000 Active and Retired SOA members;
and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, the former Anne
Parrot; and their four children, Elizabeth (Jason), Carolyn (Jack), Tim
(Allison) and Brian; as well as many grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Sergeant, Tim Morris served with
loyalty, honor and distinction; in his official acts, Tim Morris was
governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Suffolk County Police
Department, Sergeant Tim Morris earned the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sergeant Tim Morris upon the occasion of his retirement after 42

years of distinguished service to Suffolk County, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sergeant Tim Morris.
