CONGRATULATING The Honorable John A. Schuppenhauer
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2018 Mr. Canandaigua Award by the Canandaigua
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and careers to the service of others; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate The Honorable John A. Schuppenhauer upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2018 Mr. Canandaigua Award by the
Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated at its 108th Annual
Dinner and Membership Meeting on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Finger
Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, New York; and

WHEREAS, For 108 years, the Canandaigua Area Chamber of Commerce has
been a leader in its community; by contributing to business and
community development, the Chamber strives to make sure that Canandaigua
remains "the Chosen Spot", the ideal place to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, Each year the Chamber of Commerce honors a citizen for
outstanding service to the residents of Canandaigua; candidates for this
award have demonstrated service to the greater community or its people,
over and above what can be expected of one person, in the course of
everyday living, without or with very little compensation; and

WHEREAS, Known for his generosity, commitment, and passion, Judge
John A. Schuppenhauer truly embodies the epitome of Mr. Canandaigua; a
truly humble man, he has graciously donated hundreds of hours of pro
bono work to those boards upon which he has served, as well as to many
individuals who were unable to pay for his services; and

WHEREAS, Judge John A. Schuppenhauer, affectionately known as Jack,
has been described as a tireless servant of his community; this
indomitable gentleman has spent a lifetime volunteering his time and
energy for numerous community organizations including the Ontario County
ARC, Ontario County Chapter American Heart Association, Canandaigua
Kiwanis Club, Canandaigua Kiwanis Foundation, Board of Trustees of
Sonnenberg Gardens, and NYSARC, Inc., as well as Ontario County Pretrial
Release Service; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer serves as an Elder
at Shortsville Presbyterian Church and is a parishioner at
Congregational Church; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer has been the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades such as the Ontario ARC Volunteer of the
Year, and the Merit Award for Development by the American Heart
Association; he was also named Kiwanian of the Year, and was honored

with both the New York State Kiwanis Foundation Hixon and New York
Kiwanis District Anthony Kaiser Fellowship Awards; and

WHEREAS, A native of Canandaigua, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer
attended Canandaigua Senior Academy; after graduating, he earned his
bachelor's degree in political science from Ohio State University; and

WHEREAS, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer furthered his education by
obtaining his Master of Public Administration from Northeastern
University, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Syracuse University
College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Admitted to practice in the states of Ohio and New York,
Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer has served on several courts including
Federal District Court - Western District of New York, Supreme Court of
the United States, United States Court of Appeals, New York Court of
Appeals, and Canandaigua City Court; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer is
a vital member of the Ontario County Bar Association, American Trial
Lawyer's Association, New York State Bar Association, American Bar
Association, and New York State City Court Judges Association; and

WHEREAS, Since July 1, 2012, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer has served
in the private sector as a partner in the firm of Chamberlain D'Amanda;
and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife, Betsy, and
their two daughters, Erika and Hilary, all of whom have shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, A singular asset to all of the citizens he has served in
the community of the State of New York, Judge Jack A. Schuppenhauer's
life and career are a portrait of preeminence in public service, and
present a role model for all who aspire to a career in public service;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable John A. Schuppenhauer upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Mr. Canandaigua Award by the
Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable John A. Schuppenhauer.
