HONORING E. Peter Forrestel, II upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Citizen of
the Year Award by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to community service, contributing to the welfare of the
citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
E. Peter Forrestel, II upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce, to
be celebrated at its 46th Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, March 1,
2018, at Samuel's Grande Manor, Clarence, New York; and
WHEREAS, E. Peter Forrestel, II, affectionately known as Peter, has
been called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic
and charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly;
and
WHEREAS, Peter Forrestel began his illustrious career with Bank of
Akron in 1976; through the years he served in several capacities
including as Bookkeeper, Teller, Data Processing Manager, Auditor, Vice
President, Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President; and
WHEREAS, This profound experience gave Peter Forrestel a solid
understanding of how all aspects of operations interact and led to him
being elected President of Bank of Akron in 1994, the esteemed position
he held until his retirement in June of 2017; and
WHEREAS, Peter Forrestel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Michigan where he went on to earn his Master's degree in
Biology; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his profession, Peter Forrestel serves on
the Board of Directors for Bank of Akron, and has served on the Board of
Directors of the New York State Banking Department and the Advisory
Board of its successor, the Department of Financial Service; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Peter Forrestel was Director of the
Independent Bankers Association of New York State, and is a Past Group 1
Chairman for the New York Bankers Association; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Peter Forrestel served on the Board of Education for both the
Akron Central School District and Erie 1 BOCES; he has also been a
Village of Akron trustee since 1997; and
WHEREAS, Peter Forrestel has also been a member of the Akron Lions
Club and Akron-Newstead Rotary Club, as well as a Rails-to-Trails
project coordinator and Newstead Historical Trustee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Peter Forrestel has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Peter Forrestel, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor E. Peter Forrestel, II upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Clarence Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to E. Peter Forrestel, II.
