CONGRATULATING Dr. Robert Ike upon the occasion of
being named the 2018 New York State School
Superintendent of the Year by the State Council of
School Superintendents
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dr. Robert Ike upon the occasion of being named the 2018
New York State School Superintendent of the Year by the State Council of
School Superintendents; and
WHEREAS, The Superintendent of the Year Award was established in
1988, by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and is
co-sponsored by the First Student and the Variable Annuity Life
Insurance Company (VALIC); and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Ike is the first Wayne County Superintendent to
earn this esteemed honor in the award's 30-year-history; and
WHEREAS, As a knowledgeable and highly skilled Superintendent, Dr.
Robert Ike has improved the quality of education in the Palmyra-Macedon
Central School District by leading and supporting staff with enthusiasm,
cultivating a positive and stimulating school environment for his
students, and creating a greater sense of community; and
WHEREAS, A Finger Lakes native, Dr. Robert Ike graduated from South
Seneca High School in Ovid, New York; he continued his studies and went
on earn an Executive Doctorate in Educational Administration from Seton
Hall University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Ike began his distinguished career in education
as a teacher in the Romulus Central School District; he was previously
Superintendent in the Belleville Henderson Central School District and
Principal of Newfield Middle School; and
WHEREAS, A truly phenomenal leader, Dr. Robert Ike has served as
Superintendent of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District since
August of 2007; under his able leadership, the Palmyra-Macedon High
School graduation rate has risen from 82% to as high as 93%; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the graduation rate for economically
disadvantaged students has grown from 61% in 2011, to 81% in recent
years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as Superintendent, Dr. Robert Ike
currently serves as an adjunct professor and leadership coach with the
Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester, and serves on
the faculty of the Superintendent Development Program at the State
University of New York College at Oswego; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Ike has been the proud recipient of numerous
awards and accolades including the 2017 Genesee Valley ASCD Award for
outstanding work in school supervision, the 2006 Outstanding Leadership
Award from the Belleville Henderson FFA, and the 2004 Middle School
Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New
York State and National Association of Secondary School Principals; and
WHEREAS, Elected by his colleagues to represent the superintendents
of the state on the Executive Committee of the New York State Council of
School Superintendents, Dr. Robert Ike has also served as co-chair and
co-author of one of the most significant leadership studies in the
nation, "Snapshot of the Superintendency"; and
WHEREAS, A caring, competent and committed leader, Dr. Robert Ike's
character and integrity are the hallmarks of his life and work as a
school district leader, a community volunteer and as a person; and
WHEREAS, The Wayne County community is indeed fortunate and blessed
to have such a dedicated and respected educational leader; his wisdom
and contributions reach into every classroom, truly making a difference
in the lives of those lucky enough to work with him; and
WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Dr. Robert Ike continually demonstrates an impressive dedication, an
unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of
the educational programs and opportunities offered in the
Palmyra-Macedon Central School District for the benefit of its faculty
and students, as well as for the entire community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Robert Ike upon the occasion of being named the 2018
New York State School Superintendent of the Year by the State Council of
School Superintendents; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Robert Ike.
