COMMEMORATING the 75th Anniversary of the Fleming
Fire Department Company No. 2

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 75th
Anniversary of the Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2, and to honor
its past and present firefighting members for 75 years of fire
protection to the citizens of Fleming, New York, and its surrounding
communities; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated at a dinner to
be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Springside Inn, Auburn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2 is one of two
separate fire companies organized to service the Town of Fleming;
organized in 1943, the Company moved to the old Grist Mill at the corner
of Rt. 34 and Mills Street the following year; and

WHEREAS, In the beginning, the Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2
used a homemade fire truck rebuilt from a converted old milk truck; in
April of 1954, the Company purchased its first apparatus from the John
Bean Company; and

WHEREAS, The Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2 held its first
fundraising carnival in 1956; the carnivals were held annually until the
late 1980s when the members decided to replace the carnivals with
regular chicken barbecues and raffles to raise funds necessary for the
fire department; and

WHEREAS, In 1962, the Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2
converted an old gasoline tanker into a water tanker to be used for the
fire department until 1965, when the members were able to purchase a new
tanker; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the direction of Fire Chief, Tim Kaiser and
Company President of 38 years, Peter Pinckney, the Fleming Fire
Department Company No. 2 is now equipped with five apparatus including
an ambulance, a tanker-pumper, a squad truck, a fire engine and a
utility truck; and

WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of
the Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2 in public service and fire
protection is one to be envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year,
for 75 years, whenever the alarm sounded, these noble volunteers left
their homes and went to the aid of their neighbors; and

WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of the Fleming Fire Department
Company No. 2 are prepared to risk their lives every day to help save
the lives of others and to protect homes and property from the
destruction caused by fire; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the skill and devoted service demonstrated
by individual firefighters, the Fleming Fire Department Company No. 2

reflects the history and development of firefighting over the past 75
years; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should
give special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the
betterment of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic
good works performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great
Empire State, their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Fleming Fire Department
Company No. 2 to be celebrated on February 24, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Fire Chief Tim Kaiser, Fleming Fire Department Company
No. 2.
