COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Glens
Falls Area Youth Center

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the health
and welfare of our young people; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Glens Falls Area Youth Center;
and

WHEREAS, In June of 2018, former participants, staff, board members
and supporters will gather together at a special reunion to celebrate
this auspicious occasion; it is an opportunity for the Center to thank
everyone who truly believed in its mission and gave of their valuable
time and energy to help the youth of Glens Falls; and

WHEREAS, For 50 years, the Glens Falls Area Youth Center has served
as a safe haven for thousands of young people in Warren County; it is a
place where teenagers truly feel welcome, accepted, and loved, and
thereby, creating a warm and comfortable place where anyone who walks
through the door is made to feel important; and

WHEREAS, The Glens Falls Area Youth Center offers a variety of
recreation, programs and services for local teenagers including arts and
crafts, games, athletics, tutoring, daily meals, and the opportunity to
improve personal hygiene and develop basic social skills; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, the Glens Falls Area Youth Center served 2,500
young people by providing 14,911 meals, and awarding $4,000 in college
scholarships; in addition, 2,503 youths improved their grades through
tutoring programs, and 19,643 individuals participated in various
recreational activities; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Glens Falls Area Youth Center is in
direct correlation to the efforts of Executive Director Matt Congdon,
and his staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Glens Falls Area Youth Center;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matt Congdon, Executive Director, Glens Falls Area Youth
Center.
