MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 18-24, 2018, as Technology and Engineering
Education Week in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to appreciate the knowledge and skills
engineers bring for the betterment of the lives of citizens of New York
State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 18-24, 2018, as
Technology and Engineering Education Week in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Technology and Engineering Education changes the lives of
students through project based, STEM curriculum, which teaches all
students problem solving skills, design thinking, creativity, making,
social emotion skills and teamwork; and

WHEREAS, Technology and Engineering Education is an essential
learning experience for all students at all grade levels, abilities, and
backgrounds with the purpose of enhancing students' academic, technical
and social growth to create opportunities for students to develop
college and career awareness and career path preparation, while
understanding how technology is changing the human-made world and the
natural environment; and

WHEREAS, Technology and Engineering Education fosters technological
literacy and is the heart of STEM education; in Technology and
Engineering classes, STEM education comes alive as students design and
build solutions to real life problems using the knowledge they gain in
other subject areas; and

WHEREAS, With their unique versatility, Technology and Engineering
Educators work tirelessly to serve our children and communities with
competence, caring, compassion and professionalism, possessing
creativity and ingenuity, providing young people with the tools they
need in an ever changing, fast paced technological society, that changes
the lives of students by teaching these valuable skills; and

WHEREAS, One such organization that supports Technology and
Engineering Educators is the New York State Technology and Engineering
Educators' Association (NYSTEEA) which is sponsoring the "Change the
Future through STEM Education" Conference in Malta, New York, with the
objective to connect the best educators from all over the State,
showcasing new and emerging technologies while recognizing the important
role technology and engineering plays in our society; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to
enthusiastically recognize the important role Technology and Engineering
Education can play on the future of New York State about designing,
creating, building and making; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 18-24, 2018, as
Technology and Engineering Education Week in the State of New York; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
