CONGRATULATING Emily Pfalzer upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition as a member
of the United States Women's Ice Hockey Team at the
Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to extend its full
recognition and grateful tribute to the athletes of New York State who
have dedicated their purposeful lives to athletic achievement and
proudly represented their great State and Nation in international sports
competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to join the Western
New York community in honoring Emily Pfalzer, a young woman of great
skill, personal courage and unparalleled dedication, whose character and
athletic achievements are world-renowned and personify the highest
ideals of the American spirit and Olympics competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Emily Pfalzer upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as a member of the United States Women's Ice Hockey
Team at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018; and
WHEREAS, Emily Pfalzer was born to David and Jill Pfalzer on June
14, 1993, in Getzville, New York; she was raised in Buffalo, New York,
where she attended Nichols High School; after graduating, she earned her
degree from Boston College in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Emily Pfalzer has been a defender for the Buffalo Beauts
since the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) was established in 2015;
she has served as Captain of the team since its inaugural season; and
WHEREAS, Under Emily Pfalzer's luminous leadership, the Buffalo
Beauts won three Gold Medals, and captured the Isobel Cup during the
2016-2017 season; and
WHEREAS, Due to her prowess on the ice, Emily Pfalzer was selected
as a member of the 2018 United States Women's Ice Hockey Team, who were
determined to win the Gold Medal at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang
2018; and
WHEREAS, After a tough loss to Team Canada during the preliminary
rounds, Team USA defeated their rival in the final by a score of 3-2;
after 60 minutes of regulation time, a 20-minute overtime, and five
rounds of a shootout, Team USA scored in the sixth round; this
monumental win marked Team USA's first Gold Medal since 1998; and
WHEREAS, When she is not on the ice, Emily Pfalzer likes spending
time on the water wake surfing, waterskiing, and jet skiing; in her rare
down time, she enjoys a good book; and
WHEREAS, A role model for all, Emily Pfalzer is a talented,
exceptional athlete who has brought honor to her family, her coaches,
and her community of friends, all of whom have encouraged her progress
and commended her hard work and dedication; and
WHEREAS, A gifted athlete, Emily Pfalzer's character and
achievements stand as a sterling example and inspiration to all who
would aspire to such extraordinary success; and
WHEREAS, Many will only dream of competing in the Winter Olympic
Games; this young gifted athlete from the great State of New York,
through her hard work and tenacious spirit, has made that vision a
reality, and has proudly represented her country in competition among
the world's finest athletes, an honor that gives just cause for her
family, community and State to be exceedingly proud of her achievements;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Emily Pfalzer upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition as a member of the United States Women's Ice Hockey
Team at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, and wish her
continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Emily Pfalzer.
