HONORING Westhill Girls Varsity Basketball Coach
Sue Ludwig upon the occasion of reaching 500 career
wins
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
notable educators and coaches within our midst, who serve the youth of
this great Empire State, and who have distinguished themselves and their
schools through their exemplary achievements and constant commitment to
quality instruction; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
recognize and honor Westhill Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Sue Ludwig
upon the occasion of reaching 500 career wins; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sue Ludwig is in her 26th season as the head coach of
the Westhill Girls Varsity Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, On Wednesday, December 28, 2016, Coach Sue Ludwig earned
her 500th career win with the Westhill Warriors' 58-56 victory over
South Jefferson; following this game, Coach Sue Ludwig's impressive
record was 500-89; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sue Ludwig is the first coach in Section III to reach
the 500-win mark for girls basketball, and ninth on the state's all-time
win lists for the sport; she has earned a 25-year average of 19.8 wins
per season; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Coach Sue Ludwig cultivated a champion team that
won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Class C
title and finished the season with a perfect record of 28-0; she has
also led her team to win nine Section III titles and 16 Onondaga High
School League (OHSL) championship titles over her tenure; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sue Ludwig has received various recognitions for her
coaching excellence; she was twice named the All-Central New York Coach
of the Year and 11 times as the OHSL Liberty Conference Coach of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, Previously in 2011, Coach Sue Ludwig posted her 400th
career victory at Westhill and was inducted into the Greater Syracuse
Sports Hall of Fame for being an accomplished athlete, coach and mentor;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to coaching, Sue Ludwig serves as a school
psychologist in the Central Square School District, and runs various
summer and winter girls basketball camps for grades 2 through 12, where
she provides young players with skill instruction, scrimmages and relay
races; she brings in an excellent staff which includes multiple former
Division I women's basketball players; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sue Ludwig has long-standing fame in the Syracuse
community since she was a stand-out basketball player at Syracuse
University from 1984-1988, during which time she helped lead the Orange
women's basketball team to the 1985 and 1988 NCAA Tournaments; and
WHEREAS, During her time at Syracuse University, Coach Sue Ludwig
was also named first-team All-Big East her senior year, second-team
All-Big East her junior year, and twice she took the Big East Player of
the Week honors; she ended her career with 1,214 points, 520 assists and
254 steals; and
WHEREAS, Today, Coach Sue Ludwig continues to demonstrate a positive
attitude and a goal-oriented and balanced approach to athletic
instruction, on top of her genuine concern for her students and
athletes; these attributes have contributed to her enduring success as a
coach in the Westhill School District, earning her the just respect of
her community and the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Westhill Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach Sue Ludwig upon the
occasion of reaching 500 career wins; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Coach Sue Ludwig.
