COMMENDING Jeff Katz upon the occasion of his
retirement after his third term as mayor of
Cooperstown, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jeff Katz upon the occasion of retiring after his third term as
mayor of Cooperstown, New York; and

WHEREAS, In 2003, Jeff Katz and his family moved from Chicago,
Illinois, to Cooperstown, the home of baseball; the Katzes lived on
Chestnut Street and quickly became a vital part of their new community;
and

WHEREAS, Jeff Katz began his long and distinguished career as a
public servant in 2005, when he was elected village trustee; for seven
years, Jeff was a proud and dedicated member of the Village of
Cooperstown's legislative body; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Jeff Katz became the mayor of the Village of
Cooperstown, a title he held for three consecutive terms; in this
capacity, he assumed the role of number one advocate for the village by
guiding many major infrastructure improvements such as extensive street
paving, repairing sidewalks, upgrades to both the sewer and water
systems, and restoration of the village hall; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Jeff Katz was also instrumental in securing
significant funds for a new waste water treatment plant, all without
increasing the tax levy; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Karen, and their
three sons, Nate, Robbie and Joey, all of whom have shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as a public servant, Mayor Jeff Katz served
with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of
duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his official
acts; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jeff Katz upon the occasion of his retirement after his third
term as mayor of Cooperstown, New York, and to wish him continued
success in all his future endeavors; and be it further


RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mayor Jeff Katz.
