Senate Resolution No. 5023

COMMEMORATING the observance of the One Hundred
Deadly Days of Summer for the Teen Driver Campaign

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize official campaigns that are
set aside to increase awareness of issues that affect the lives of
citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the observance of the One Hundred Deadly Days of Summer for
the Teen Driver Campaign; and

WHEREAS, According to the National Highway Safety Administration,
the period between Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018, and Labor Day,
Monday, September 3, 2018, are the 100 deadliest days of motor vehicle
accidents for drivers ages 15 to 20; and

WHEREAS, According to the 2003-2009 New York State Police Crash
Reports, 16 and 17 year-old drivers are more likely to be severely
injured or killed in motor vehicle related accidents and less likely to
wear a seatbelt during the summer months; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to the health and welfare of our young people,
the New York State Department of Health has launched its One Hundred
Deadly Days of Summer for Teen Drivers Campaign to educate New Yorkers
on the dangers of driver inexperience, speeding, driving distractions,
and the prevention of driving related deaths; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the observance of the One Hundred Deadly Days of Summer for
the Teen Driver Campaign; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the New York State Department of Health.
