HONORING Demola Ogunnaike upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Youth Leadership
Award by the Community Council for Medgar Evers
College, Inc. on April 27, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Demola Ogunnaike upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Youth Leadership Award by the Community Council for
Medgar Evers College, Inc. to be celebrated at its Annual Spring
Scholarship and Leadership Awards Luncheon on Saturday, April 27, 2019;
and

WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, a diverse group of residents, clergy and
elected officials formed the Community Council to provide access to a
quality college education for students living in central Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, Medgar Evers College was established in 1970, by the
Community Council, along with New York City University in honor of Civil
Rights leader Medgar W. Evers, who recruited black residents to register
and vote; and

WHEREAS, Currently a senior at Medgar Evers College Preparatory
School, Demola Ogunnaike is an exceptional student, maintaining a solid
95.80% GPA; he has successfully completed 16 AP courses and will
complete 60 credits at CUNY Medgar Evers College, graduating with an
associate's degree in general biology in May of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Actively involved in his school, Demola Agunnaike is the
President of the Knights of Wisdom Chess Team, Project PengYou Club and
the National Honor Society Ujima Chapter, of which he is also Chair of
Character; in addition, he is the co-founder of the National Society of
Black Engineers Junior Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Demola Agunnaike is an Americans Promoting Study Abroad
2017 Scholar, a Police Athletic League volunteer, an ACE Mentorship
Program student, and a member of both the FloraMind Youth Advisory
Council and the All Star Code Summer Intensive Program; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Demola Ogunnaike plans to attend college
at either SUNY Binghamton, the University of Pittsburgh or Rutgers
University; and

WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Demola Ogunnaike represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Demola Ogunnaike upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Youth Leadership Award by the Community Council for
Medgar Evers College, Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Demola Ogunnaike.
