HONORING Sue and Jim (posthumously) Cusack upon
the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Humanitarian Award by the Long Island Council on
Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. on April 29,
2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
those individuals within the State of New York who have shown a devoted
commitment to improving the health and well-being of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sue and Jim (posthumously) Cusack upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of the Humanitarian Award by the Long Island Council on
Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. to be celebrated at its 32nd Annual
Adele C. Smithers Angel Ball at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City,
New York, on Monday, April 29, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1956 by R. Brinkley Smithers, the Long
Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) is the
leading nonprofit organization on Long Island dedicated to addressing
the challenges of alcoholism and drug addiction, and promoting addiction
recovery; and

WHEREAS, Sue Cusack and her late husband, Jim, are receiving this
prestigious award for their steadfast and unremitting commitment to
those individuals who are struggling with addiction; and

WHEREAS, Sue and Jim Cusack opened the Villa Veritas Foundation,
Inc.: Rehabilitation Center in Kerhonkson, New York, to provide a safe
haven for those who are chemically dependent; today, under the luminous
direction of Sue, and through Jim's philosophy, love,and spirit, the
Villa Veritas Foundation continues to provide compassionate,
interdisciplinary chemical dependency treatment; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sue and Jim (posthumously) Cusack upon the occasion of their
designation as recipients of the Humanitarian Award by the Long Island
Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. on April 29, 2019; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sue Cusack.
