HONORING Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Leadership Award by the SUNY Old Westbury College
Foundation on May 7, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Leadership Award by the SUNY Old Westbury College
Foundation to be celebrated with a Dinner on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at
Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, New York; and

WHEREAS, The 2019 Leadership Awards Dinner will honor distinguished
area citizens and College alumni who enrich the community in distinctive
ways - economically, scientifically, culturally, intellectually and
socially - and whose efforts, taken together, are helping to transform
the Long Island Region; and

WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and
the success of SUNY Old Westbury is due in large part to the efforts of
Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III; and

WHEREAS, As President of SUNY Old Westbury, Dr. Calvin O. Butts,
III, has worked continuously to create a stimulating atmosphere
dedicated to academic excellence and the development of leadership
qualities in students; and

WHEREAS, In working to enable SUNY Old Westbury to achieve its
fullest potential, Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III has guided the campus as it
has grown to record enrollment, added full-time faculty, and expanded
the services the College provides to support and aid students; and

WHEREAS, For the past 20 years, the leadership of Dr. Calvin O.
Butts, III has had a pervasive impact on such wide-ranging community
development initiatives as education, homelessness, senior citizen and
youth empowerment, cultural awareness and ecumenical outreach; and

WHEREAS, The Old Westbury community is indeed fortunate and blessed
to have such a dedicated and respected educational leader; his wisdom
and contributions reach into every classroom, truly making a difference
in the lives of those lucky enough to work with him; and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III continually demonstrates an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at

SUNY Old Westbury for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well
as for the entire community; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Leadership Award by the SUNY Old Westbury College
Foundation on May 7, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III.
