COMMENDING the Miss Caricom International
Foundation and Dr. Monica Sanchez upon the occasion
of hosting the Miss Caricom and Miss Rochdale
Village Pageants on June 22, 2019
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Miss Caricom International Foundation and Dr. Monica Sanchez
upon the occasion of hosting the Miss Caricom and Miss Rochdale Village
Pageants on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in the Grand Ballroom at Rochdale
Village Inc. in Jamaica, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Republic of Guyana, Monica Sanchez truly
understood the importance of a good education and worked hard to obtain
one; after migrating to the United States as a teenager, she earned both
her bachelor's degree and later, her Ph.D.; and
WHEREAS, With over 25 years of experience as a business woman in the
fashion, entertainment and cultural industries, Dr. Monica Sanchez
co-founded the Miss Caricom International Foundation to empower and
promote women worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Through the Miss Caricom Pageant, ages 17-30, and the Miss
Rochdale Village Pageant, ages 10-16, young women from diverse cultural
and socioeconomic backgrounds are encouraged to serve as the leaders of
tomorrow, exemplifying the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, These participants are living the American dream, serving
as inspirations to young women everywhere that dreams can come true
especially when you seek to serve your community and place others before
yourself; and
WHEREAS, Contestants truly exemplify the potential inherent in our
young women, and serve as outstanding role models for their peers and
for the young people with whom they work and stand with poise and
purpose to face the challenges of new experiences; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Miss Caricom International Foundation and Dr. Monica Sanchez
upon the occasion of hosting the Miss Caricom and Miss Rochdale Village
Pageants on June 22, 2019; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Monica Sanchez, CEO, Miss Caricom International
Foundation.
