COMMENDING the Haitian-American Community
Coalition and Flatlands Reformed Community Center
upon the occasion of hosting the Flatlands Food and
Fitness Festival on July 27, 2019
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Haitian-American Community Coalition and Flatlands Reformed
Community Center upon the occasion of hosting the Flatlands Food and
Fitness Festival to be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019; and
WHEREAS, The Flatlands Food and Fitness Festival, Brooklyn's only
event dedicated to health, fitness, food and nutrition for all ages, is
the newly designed re-branding of the Haitian-American Community
Coalition's highly successful Annual Health and Wellness Expo which was
previously held at the Flatbush Caton market for the past eight years;
and
WHEREAS, The Flatlands Food and Fitness Festival is the signature
event created from the joint efforts of the Haitian-American Community
Coalition and Flatlands Reformed Community Center where attendees will
be exposed to a genre of physical activities, health and nutrition
options, and information that will improve their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Over 500 local residents from the surrounding areas of
Flatlands, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Old Mill Basin and Sheepshead Bay
are expected to attend the biggest, most culturally diverse street
festival in the Flatlands-Flatbush community; and
WHEREAS, Attendees can participate in free cardio fitness activities
throughout the day, eat international and local foods, shop for health
and wellness products, and hang out with neighbors and friends; and
WHEREAS, All vendors, with the exception of food vendors, must have
a direct correlation with health, wellness and fitness; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Flatlands Food and Fitness Festival will
feature over 50 exhibition health and wellness vendors, businesses,
local organizations, restaurants, and food trucks alongside and around
Kings Highway; and
WHEREAS, The Flatlands-Flatbush community prides itself on its
uniqueness, artistry and cultural diversity; the Flatlands Food and
Fitness Festival will offer high-quality food and fitness entertainment
that will revitalized and enrich the entire community's experience; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
those events of health and wellness significance which add strength,
vigor and inspiration to the cultural diversity and quality of life in
the communities of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Haitian-American Community Coalition and Flatlands Reformed
Community Center upon the occasion of hosting the Flatlands Food and
Fitness Festival; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Haitian-American Community Coalition and Flatlands
Reformed Community Center.
