CONGRATULATING the Portville High School Girls'
Volleyball Team upon the occasion of winning the
2018 Class C New York State Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can only be
achieved through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
those young people within our community, who, by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competitions, have inspired and brought pride to
their school district and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Portville High School Girls' Volleyball Team upon the
occasion of winning the 2018 Class C New York State Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Portville High School Girls' Volleyball Team
successfully won the Class C State Championship and this marks an
impressive fourth state championship in four years; and

WHEREAS, The Portville Panthers sets were 25-10, 25-15, 25-23,
defeating Millbrook in the finals for the second straight year; for the
first time, the Panthers swept the title match and displayed overall
dominance by finishing 23-0 in non-tournament matches, and never lost a
set in the post season; it is this type of dedication and talent that
makes the Portville Panthers a true dynasty; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the dedication and efforts of Head Coach Kelly Unverdorben, who
has a career record of 165-12 in eight seasons (six seasons at Portville
and two at Ellicottville); this includes five state titles for Coach
Unverdorben in eight years; and

WHEREAS, The Portville Panthers run of state titles has earned them
the distinction of fifth in state history; the team members were loyally
and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends, and the entire
community; and

WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting
favorably on their school; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those high school athlete-scholars who have achieved notable
success in this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Portville High School Girls' Volleyball
Team: Kylie Blessing, Tori Unverdorben, Olivia Emley, Shayla Wilhelm,
Taylor Beck, Beth Miller, Reggie Tkacik, Olivia Cook, Ericka Carlson,
Hailey Keim, Brooke Deyoe, Sierra Keim, Brooke Decker, Laura Wilhelm,

Sydney Colligan; Head Coach Kelly Unverdorben and Assistant Coach Ginny
Wilhelm; Statistician Kayla Wright; Managers Kaleb Shaw and Sam
Steadman, on their incredible State title win; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Portville High School Girls'
Volleyball Team; Head Coach Kelly Unverdorben; Assistant Coach Ginny
Wilhelm; Statistician Kayla Wright; and Managers Kaleb Shaw and Sam
Steadman.
