Senate Resolution No. 1761

HONORING Jesus Torres upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2019 Youth of the
Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jesus Torres upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2019 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle;
and

WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; Jesus Torres is a shining
example and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs;
and

WHEREAS, Jesus Torres is a 16-year old junior at New Rochelle High
School, where he is a member of Model Congress, Chorale and the Rugby
Team; and

WHEREAS, A member of the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle for four
years, Jesus Torres was one of the inaugural members of the re-launch of
the Mascaro Teen Program; he was subsequently elected Co-President of
Keystone, a new charter for the teen program; and

WHEREAS, With a passion for law, Jesus Torres is also an active
member of Law Club, which is run by the New Rochelle Bar Association for
Boys & Girls Club members; and

WHEREAS, Jesus Torres, in achieving this high honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, community and school; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jesus Torres upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2019 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of New
Rochelle; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jesus Torres.
