HONORING Andrew Larson upon the occasion of being
named a 2018 Distinguished Alumnus by the Hudson
Valley Community College Foundation and Alumni
Association on September 22, 2018
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
its esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their
profession and in their community; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Andrew
Larson upon the occasion of being named a 2018 Distinguished Alumnus by
the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation and Alumni Association to
be celebrated at its Alumni Awards Brunch on Homecoming Weekend,
Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Bulmer Telecommunications Center,
Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Troy, New York, Andrew Larson has always
been an entrepreneur; throughout his high school years, he successfully
ran his own Dee Jay business; and
WHEREAS, After earning his business degree from Hudson Valley
Community College (HVCC) in 1991, Andrew Larson accepted a position at
The Troy Record as South Troy's district manager; he moved downtown,
tending bar in his evenings at some of the city's historic restaurants,
such as the Cape House, Trojan Tap Room and his uncle's bar, The Tavern
(now the Wine Bar); and
WHEREAS, Andrew Larson left the area in 1994 and moved to
Skanderborg, Denmark where he taught English in the public school, and
worked as a Dee Jay for the local the radio station; in this capacity,
he helped set the stage for its annual rock festival; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to the United States, Andrew Larson
relocated to the Deep South, where he explored various careers; he
played baseball and golf, and eventually began a golf business in Hilton
Head Island, South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, In this role, Andrew Larson became proficient in his field,
especially as a caddy; fortunately for him, he served as a caddy for
some employees of CBS Sports the day after The Masters of 2005; they
offered him the opportunity of a lifetime, and he began the challenging
task of learning all the television production jobs to cover the next
PGA Tour for CBS, walking with Tiger Woods on his first outing; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Andrew Larson returned to the Capital District and
continued to work with the CBS graphics team for the NFL; in 2015, he
was asked to produce a segment on "Thursday Night Football" called
"NextGen" which led to working his first Super Bowl; he and his team
proudly earned an Emmy Award for the broadcast; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished television career, Andrew
Larson covered numerous sports, however, as a diehard Yankees fan, it
was the thrill of a lifetime to work on Major League Baseball coverage
and witness the celebration of a 2009 World Championship in the Bronx;
and
WHEREAS, Since the broadcasting field requires long, stressful hours
on weekends and holidays, and a great deal of traveling, Andrew Larson
spearheaded various fundraising events to raise the spirits of his
fellow team members; through the years, they have donated significant
funds to various worthy organizations; and
WHEREAS, Today, Andrew Larson lives in Saratoga Springs, New York
where he and his family own and operate a Bed and Breakfast
establishment; true to his roots, he also continues to cover the PGA
Tour and NFL for CBS Sports; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Andrew Larson upon the occasion of being named a 2018
Distinguished Alumnus by the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation
and Alumni Association on September 22, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrew Larson.
