HONORING William Cherry upon the occasion of his
designation as Grand Marshal of the 2019 Schoharie
Memorial Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished individuals who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William Cherry upon the occasion of his designation as Grand Marshal of
the 2019 Schoharie Memorial Day Parade, which was held on Thursday, May
23, 2019; and

WHEREAS, William Cherry was named Grand Marshal of the Schoharie
Memorial Day Parade in recognition of his outstanding work in the
community and his contributions to the fabric of American life; and

WHEREAS, On Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday of
the month of May, we honor those Americans who gave their lives in
defense of their country, whether in the Civil War which divided our
nation or in times of war since that time, and in times of peace, in
police actions and minor skirmishes, in peacekeeping roles and in
missions to foreign lands to uphold the cherished principles of liberty
and democracy upon which our grand Republic was founded; and

WHEREAS, William Cherry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in
public administration, with a concentration in finance and economics;
and

WHEREAS, For the past 24 years, William Cherry has held the title of
Schoharie County Treasurer, the position from which he will officially
retire at the end of 2019; and

WHEREAS, In addition to this esteemed role, William Cherry served
one term as Schoharie Town Supervisor from 1994-1995, and was a member
of the Schoharie Village Board of Trustees for several years; and

WHEREAS, William Cherry was also the President of both the New York
State Association of Counties and the New York State Association of
County Treasurers and Finance Officers; currently, he serves as
President of the New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal (NYMIR); and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sherry, their five
children, and seven grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their

profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William Cherry upon the occasion of his designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2019 Schoharie Memorial Day Parade; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William Cherry.
