LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Healthy Warrior
Mom upon the occasion of hosting a Blood Donation
Drive, in conjunction with the 10th Annual World
Sickle Cell Day Anniversary on June 19, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
events which aim to increase awareness of serious illnesses that affect
the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Healthy Warrior Mom upon the occasion of hosting a Blood
Donation Drive, in conjunction with the 10th Annual World Sickle Cell
Day Anniversary, to be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Flatbush
YMCA of Greater NY in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Geneva Marie Farrow, known as the Healthy Warrior Mom, is a
holistic health and wellness speaker, Sickle Cell Mom, and educator; and

WHEREAS, After her son, Dylan, was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia
at birth, she used her 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical
industry to help approach her son's illness holistically; she started
the Healthy Warrior Mom blog to share her experiences with other Sickle
Cell Moms and to spread awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia in her
community; and

WHEREAS, Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) affects about 100,000 Americans;
the disease occurs among about 1 out of every 365 Black or
African-American births, and about 1 out of every 16,300
Hispanic-American births; approximately 1 in 13 Black or
African-American babies is born with the sickle cell trait (SCT); and

WHEREAS, SCD is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders;
complications can include pain and other serious problems such as
infection, acute chest syndrome and stroke; Anemia is a very common
complication of SCD; and

WHEREAS, With SCD, the red blood cells die early, meaning there are
not enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
events and organizations that work to serve the health care needs of
citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Healthy Warrior Mom upon the occasion of hosting a Blood
Donation Drive, in conjunction with the 10th Annual World Sickle Cell
Day Anniversary on June 19, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Geneva Marie Farrow, Healthy Warrior Mom.
