COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Plaza
Diner in New Paltz, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
illustrious culinary establishments which have positively impacted and
substantially contributed to the vitality of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Plaza Diner in New Paltz, New
York, celebrated with a party on Sunday, June 16, 2019; and

WHEREAS, In 1969, Harris Dariotis, a 26-year old immigrant from
Greece, and his friend, George Demosthenous, had a foundation built in a
mall parking lot and assembled a prefab diner on the site, officially
opening for business as the Plaza Diner in November of that year; and

WHEREAS, The duo remained partners in business for 35 years, with
Harris Dariotis, affectionately known by his staff and customers as Bob
or Bobby, taking over full ownership in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Located in the New Paltz Plaza at 271 Main Street, the
Plaza Diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and many of its
menu items remain the same as they were back in the restaurant's
earliest days; and

WHEREAS, The Plaza Diner serves both Mediterranean dishes and
wholesome, all-American comfort food; customers praise the burgers,
turkey dinner, Reuben and Monte Cristo sandwiches, as well as the crispy
fries, coleslaw and deli pickles; and

WHEREAS, The remarkable success of the Plaza Diner is due in large
part to its Owner, Harris Dariotis, its Baker of 48 years, Ray Crispino,
and its dedicated kitchen and wait staff, whose warmth and hospitality
are easily recognized by their loyal patrons; this dynamic team is
well-versed in customer service and truly makes everyone who walks
through their door feel like family; and

WHEREAS, For a half century, Plaza Diner has stood as a beloved
establishment which has provided a friendly, open environment for
patrons to collectively gather and share their thoughts, ideas and life
experiences; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Plaza Diner in New Paltz, New
York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Harris Dariotis, Owner, Plaza Diner, New Paltz, New York.
