CONGRATULATING Behailu Bekele-Arcuri upon the
occasion of winning the New York State Public High
School Athletic Association Class A Boys Cross
Country Championship

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Behailu Bekele-Arcuri upon the occasion of winning the New York State
Public High School Athletic Association Class A Boys Cross Country
Championship race on Saturday, November 16, 2019 in Plattsburgh, New
York; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of his friends, family and
teammates, Behailu Bekele-Arcuri was able to surmount his opponents in
the New York State Championship Meet and achieve the utmost high school
sporting accomplishment in this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Behailu Bekele-Arcuri won the Class A Boys Cross Country
race with an astonishing time of 14 minutes, 32.7 seconds; and

WHEREAS, These are not uncharted waters for Behailu Bekele-Arcuri,
who has posted four top-10 finishes in the New York State Championship
Meet over his outstanding athletic career at Warwick Valley High School;
and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as Cross Country, which demands strenuous
training, consistent mileage, and mental toughness, Head Coach Michael
Potter and his expert coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of
this outstanding athlete, teaching this student-athlete lessons which
will prove invaluable both on and off the course; and

WHEREAS, Behailu Bekele-Arcuri has shown he is deserving of high
praise with his voracious desire to learn and improve, as well as
overcoming steep odds to achieve the most coveted prize in New York
State High School sports; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Behailu Bekele-Arcuri upon the occasion of capturing the
New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class A
Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Behailu Bekele-Arcuri.
