COMMENDING The Honorable Michael Dockett upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Southern Queens Park Association on January
17, 2020
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dockett has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The
Honorable Michael Dockett upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Southern Queens Park Association to be
celebrated at its 44th Anniversary Gala on Friday, January 17, 2020, at
Roy Wilkins Park Family Center, Jamaica, New York; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dockett has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, After more than three decades of working for the New York
City Parks Department in all corners of the city, Michael Dockett was
appointed borough Commissioner of Queens Park in March of 2019; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dockett has had a lasting impact on the many
divisions he has worked in at the New York City Department of Parks and
Recreation; his extensive background in environmental education,
enforcement and emergency management will be extremely beneficial in his
new role leading Queens' beloved green spaces; and
WHEREAS, Beginning his illustrious career in 1984 as an Urban Park
Ranger, Michael Dockett quickly rose through the ranks to become a
Ranger Supervisor and Borough Director in Manhattan, Staten Island,
Brooklyn and the Bronx; and
WHEREAS, Michael Dockett then went on to become the Director of
Central Communications, and was later promoted to Parks & Recreation
Manager of Brooklyn's District 17 and 18, as well as serving as the
borough's Green Street Manager; he became Brooklyn's Chief of Recreation
prior to returning to the Urban Park Service as Chief and eventual
Assistant Commissioner in 2008; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Michael Dockett was responsible for the
operations of the Parks Enforcement Patrol, Central Communications and
Emergency Management for the agency, and also oversaw critical
enforcement operations and health and safety compliance during the
outdoor pool and beach seasons; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he established and implemented plans in
response to coastal storms and other hazards impacting parks; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, Michael Dockett was the proud recipient of the
Mary Purcell Award in recognition of his long lasting influence on the
Maintenance, Operations and Urban Park Service divisions; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Michael Dockett has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Michael Dockett upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Southern Queens Park
Association on January 17, 2020; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Michael Dockett.
