HONORING Kathleen Carroll upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the
Adirondack Film Society on October 25, 2018
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable talent and integrity
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathleen Carroll upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Adirondack Film Society to be celebrated at the Lake
Placid Film Festival Gala on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at High Peaks
Resort, Lake Placid, New York; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Carroll, co-founder of the Lake Placid Film
Festival and respected New York Daily News film critic, is being honored
for giving so generously of her time, talent and services to the Lake
Placid community; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Carroll has crafted an annual film series
exceptional in its scope, depth, and quality year after year, which has
included many world, national, and East Coast premieres; she has
supported the world of emerging filmmakers by providing opportunities
for women, Native Americans and others who struggle to get their work
seen; and
WHEREAS, An influential voice for decades, Variety has described
Kathleen Carroll as the critic "who picks pix people like"; and
WHEREAS, She has been both a film consultant and a script consultant
for many projects, was the associate producer of "Diary of the Cannes
Film Festival", and has served on juries of the Berlin Film Festival,
the Montreal Film Festival and the Santa Barbara Film Festival; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Kathleen Carroll has been a lecturer at
Fordham University, New York University, and the New School of Social
Research; she is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at St. John's
University; and
WHEREAS, Since 2000, Kathleen Carroll's generous contributions to
the Adirondack Film Society and distinguished service as Artistic
Director for the Lake Placid Film Festival have brought unique film
programming and conversations, directors, actors, producers and industry
insiders to the Lake Placid community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity
to express its highest admiration for Kathleen Carroll, and to wish her
continued success in all her future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen Carroll upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Adirondack Film Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kathleen Carroll.
