HONORING Muriel Goode-Trufant upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the John O. Frazier
Leadership Award by Emmanuel Baptist Church on
February 28, 2020
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Muriel Goode-Trufant upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the John O. Frazier Leadership Award by Emmanuel Baptist Church to be
celebrated at its 5th Annual "EBC Honors: Coming to EBC" on Friday,
February 28, 2020, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Muriel Goode-Trufant graduated from Temple
University Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Muriel Goode-Trufant
began her exemplary legal career at a mid-sized Philadelphia law firm;
after four and a half years of private practice she relocated to New
York City; and
WHEREAS, In New York City, Muriel Goode-Trufant's career in public
service began in the General Litigation Division; from there, she
progressed to Staff Attorney, Deputy Assistant Chief, Assistant Chief,
and Acting Deputy Chief; and
WHEREAS, Muriel Goode-Trufant, upon the creation of the Special
Federal Litigation Division in 1998, was appointed as division Deputy
Chief; and
WHEREAS, Four years later she went on to become Chief of the
division; while serving as Chief of Special Federal Litigation she was
appointed to serve as the Law Department's Equal Employment Opportunity
Officer in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Since September 2015, Muriel Goode-Trufant has been the Law
Department's Managing Attorney, supporting the mission of the agency as
well as its extraordinary opportunities and fascinating and meaningful
work; and
WHEREAS, Married to Reverend Anthony L. Trufant, Senior Pastor of
Emmanuel Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, they are the proud
parents of two beautiful daughters, Sharise and Toni; as First Lady of
EBC, Muriel Goode-Trufant plays a vital role in several ministries
within the church; and
WHEREAS, Muriel Goode-Trufant has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Muriel Goode-Trufant has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Muriel Goode-Trufant has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Muriel Goode-Trufant, that future generations may know and appreciate
her admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Muriel Goode-Trufant upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the John O. Frazier Leadership Award by Emmanuel Baptist
Church; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Muriel Goode-Trufant.
