HONORING Nadia Lopez upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Impact Award by
Emmanuel Baptist Church on February 28, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dr. Nadia Lopez upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Impact Award from Emmanuel Baptist Church to be celebrated at its 5th
Annual "EBC Honors: Coming to EBC" on Friday, February 28, 2020, in
Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nadia Lopez has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nadia Lopez has forged a path of inspired leadership to
show the world how underprivileged communities can beat the odds and
create positive institutions that have a global impact; and

WHEREAS, As the founding Principal of Mott Hall Bridges Academy in
Brooklyn, Dr. Nadia Lopez is a nationally renowned education innovator,
whose innovations have drawn accolades from the Obama administration and
the Global Teacher Prize jurors; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nadia Lopez' success story has been shared through
numerous media outlets and resulted in her being a guest on The Ellen
Show, visiting President Barack Obama at the White House, and receiving
the Medal of Distinction from Barnard College; she was also honored
alongside First Lady Michelle Obama with the Change Agent Award at the
Black Girls Rock show hosted on BET Network, was a finalist in the
Global Teacher Prize, and presented a TED Talk on the Education
Revolution; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her career Dr. Nadia Lopez has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. Nadia Lopez has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to

Dr. Nadia Lopez, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Nadia Lopez upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Impact Award by Emmanuel Baptist Church; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Nadia Lopez.
