CONGRATULATING Nicholas Shen upon the occasion of
capturing the Nassau County Diving Championship on
February 5, 2020

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Nicholas Shen upon the occasion of capturing the Nassau County Diving
Championship on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Nassau Aquatic
Center in East Meadow, New York; and

WHEREAS, In front of a capacity crowd and a fan base of family,
friends and teammates, Nicholas Shen won his third consecutive state
title with a record-breaking score of 580.35, defeating the runner-up by
an astounding 35.8 points; and

WHEREAS, With this monumental victory, Nicholas Shen will proudly
represent Great Neck South High School at the NYSPHSAA Diving
Championship on Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Nassau Aquatic Center; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as diving, which demands athletic prowess,
concentration and agility, Coach Jim Morrow worked hard to hone the
skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons which
will prove invaluable both in and out of the pool; and

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice; Nicholas Shen's dedication to
diving is a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and
has developed a matchless work ethic; and

WHEREAS, Nicholas Shen's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and
communities across New York State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Nicholas Shen upon the occasion of capturing the Nassau
County Diving Championship on February 5, 2020; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nicholas Shen and Coach Jim Morrow.
