CONGRATULATING Petty Officer 1st Class Samantha
Mercurio upon the occasion of being promoted to
Chief Petty Officer, the highest rank achieved by a
United States Naval Sea Cadet

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Petty Officer 1st Class Samantha Mercurio upon the occasion
of being promoted to Chief Petty Officer, the highest rank achieved by a
United States Naval Sea Cadet, to be celebrated at a ceremony on
Saturday, April 11, 2020, at the Northport VA Hospital, Northport, New
York; and

WHEREAS, A member of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps
(USNSCC), Samantha Mercurio joined the New York LPD-21 Division in 2017;
and

WHEREAS, During her tenure with the USNSCC, Samantha Mercurio has
participated in countless community service events; furthermore, she has
been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, as well as
recognitions and ribbons for academic achievement, NSCC staff cadet,
marksmanship; and

WHEREAS, Eager to advance her career, Samantha Mercurio has attended
several training sessions, some of which include: Recruit Training,
Medical Training, Recruiting Duty, Petty Officer Leadership Academy,
Seamanship, Sailing, and Naval Sea Cadet Corp Training as a staff member
to younger cadets; and

WHEREAS, Upon her graduation from high school, Samantha Mercurio
plans to attend Villanova University; she hopes to join the ROTC program
and has long-term plans which include serving in the United States
Military and pursuing a law degree; and

WHEREAS, While not busy with the Sea Cadets, Samantha Mercurio
enjoys scuba diving and playing football; this amazing young woman was
the first female football player to play at the varsity level at Syosset
High School; and

WHEREAS, Samantha Mercurio, in achieving this high honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence she brings to her family, friends, and community; and

WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Samantha Mercurio represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Petty Officer 1st Class Samantha Mercurio upon the occasion
of being promoted to Chief Petty Officer, the highest rank achieved by a
United States Naval Sea Cadet; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Samantha Mercurio.
